What kind of person stands in front of crowds and shares his dream to change a nation’s discrimination culture? What kind of person will go rescue abandon babies in India and give them a place to live? What kind of person will spend their weekends and evenings mentoring others?
Are these kinds of people born this way? Did their parents teach them this? Are they special? Did God hand them a different calling than everybody else?
Many people would say that these types of people are extraordinary. They’re special. What they do isn’t for ordinary folks.
I disagree. The kind of people who do things like these are ordinary people. There is only one difference between these types of people and everybody else. They saw something they didn’t like in the world and they decided to do something about it. That’s it. They made a choice and acted to do something about it. And that’s the only difference.
Extraordinary people get up in the morning. They put their pants on, one leg at a time. They eat, and sleep. They have fears and hopes and dreams. They have conflict and struggle. They doubt themselves on some days. They just decide to move forward and make a difference anyway.
Being an extraordinary person and living a legacy is an option for anyone. All you have to do is to decide that ordinary isn’t good enough. It’s not good enough to sleep walk through life, just getting by, just taking care of the next thing that life gives you.
Once the decision is made, you get into the process of emerging. You get some people to come along side and support you. You work on yourself. You clarify the impact you are creating.. You get into action. You focus your efforts. You try things and learn. And over time, eventually you’ll look out and see the incredible legacy you are living that will leave some part of the world forever changed.
What kind of person are you?
