What is Your Super Power?

Super HeroMovies based on comic book characters are popular theses days. We watch movies about Superman, Batman, The Hulk, Thor, Captain America, and more. What makes these characters superheros is that they have super powers. If we were to ask each of them what their super power is, we might get answers like:

  • I turn into a green raging monster when I get angry.
  • I can fly, I have super strength and laser eye beams.
  • I am the only one who can pick up and use this hammer.

The idea for this blog originally came from Seth Godin in his blog, “What’s your super power?” Seth Godin’s blog entry applies to business owners and entrepreneurs. I want to apply this concept to our calling.

When we think about our purpose in life, it’s something we were made to do that is unique to us. This most certainly should involve our strengths. God doesn’t give us strengths and then tell us to not use them.

We all have strengths. Maybe we don’t consider them to be super hero powers, yet, our strengths are what makes us great. Some of us have an incredible ability to teach. Some of us have an amazing ability to fix things. Some of us can make anyone feel at ease. Some of us can “talk to computers” and get them to do what we want. Some of us know how to make a business thrive. The possibilities are endless.

So, just like Seth Godin, I ask you: What is your super power? You may have more than one.

One of my super powers is that I reduce complexity. I can get to the root of the issue or problem sifting through all the things that aren’t as important. I have applied this superpower to developing and debugging computer software. Lately I’ve been using this super power to teach people.

I tell people something like, “Look, there’s lots going on here, but what’s most important is that you focus on these 3 areas …” I get to use a super power every time I teach people. This is one of the things I love about our company, Simply Great Lives. I get to use a super power and teach people to focus their life on things that matter most.

So what about you? Go ahead and post a reply to this blog. I’d love to hear about your super power.
