We Are All People of Influence

InfluenceIt feels a little awkward developing my story and message at this point. At Simply Great Lives, we have been sharing John’s story about his heart attack for a while now. I’m just not used to clearly stating my own experience and story.

My message is related to the story I shared on Monday. I am confident that my abuser did not set out to hurt me. I am sure that he didn’t consider that as a result of his actions I’d be struggling almost 30 years down the road.

I’ve learned from this experience that we are all people of influence, whether we want to be or not and whether we try to be or not.

We don’t need to become people of influence because we already are people of influence. From this point, then, it’s a matter of getting clear on what kind of impact we want to have and getting more effective at making the impact we want.

Being deliberate about how we influence other people is so important because the accidental influence we have often has a negative impact on other people.

It may be tempting to seek to have a neutral impact, to just focus on oneself and not worry about other people. However, I think we are wired to contribute to the world around us. We will never be satisfied only living for ourselves. Furthermore, being self-centered ends up being a burden on other people.

Thanks for being with me while I hash out these ideas. Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section of this post:  http://simplygreatlives.com/our-calling/we-are-all-people-of-influence/
