Tough Bikers and Fierce Love

biker on a Harley DavidsonWhen you think of bikers, you probably don’t think of fierce and protective love. Last week I sat through a presentation by Bikers Against Child Abuse (BACA). It was phenomenal. It really got me thinking about letting our passions guide our efforts to have a positive impact.

BACA gets involved when a child has been abused and is feeling threatened by the perpetrator. They park their motorcycle and stand on the curb if necessary to help the child feel safe again. They even accompany the child into court when the child testifies against their abuser. The presenter told stories that moved me to tears repeatedly.

As I look back on the presentation, I wonder how many of those bikers experienced abuse themselves. Is that a primary motivator for helping those kids? Many people use a tough experience to later bless other people. That tough experience makes them passionate about that issue. Sometimes they want to prevent it so other people don’t have to go through it. Other times, they help people who’ve also gone through a similar experience heal from it.

Redeeming a tough experience can be powerful. Maybe you have an issue that tugs at your heart because of an experience you had. Maybe you want to do something about it, but you’re not sure where to start. At our weekend seminar, Life Impact Academy: Connection and Purpose, we will help participants redeem a tough experience. They will be able to take something bad and use it for good. For many people, it will be their calling. For everyone, it’s at least an opportunity for additional healing.

Whether or not your tough experience becomes your calling, we are praying for you to connect with your passion and to use it to make a positive difference in the lives of other people. There are people who need you in their lives. Don’t worry. You don’t have to be a tough biker to make your own unique impact in  the world.
