This message is for all the analytical, geek types out there, ’cause “I are one.” Just to forewarn you, this post talks about time travel. If you don’t “get it,” don’t worry. More posts will arrive in due time.
Let’s start with a story.
Jerry discovers one day that he can make an apparatus that will send a message 15 minutes back in time. He can turn on the apparatus to receive a message, and if he leaves it on, he can wait 15 minutes and send his past self a single character message.
Jerry starts testing his machine. He decides to send the letter “A” through the machine. He turns the machine on, and suddenly an “A” appears. He waits 15 minutes and then sends the “A”. It works!
Jerry being the rebellious sort decides to try something else. He decides that he’s going to try to thwart the system. He decides that if he sees an “A” appear, he’s going to instead send a “B”, and if he sees a “B” appear, he’s going to send an “A.” Jerry is attempting to create a paradox (a contradiction) to see what will happen.
So Jerry turns on the machine and waits for the first message to appear … and nothing happens – no message at all. Jerry turns off the machine stumped. He certain didn’t expect nothing to happen. He expected something to appear even if it was gobble-de-gook. Jerry wondered, “Maybe this is how paradoxes are prevented.”
The next night Jerry wakes up with a sudden realization. Jerry didn’t see a message because he never sent a message to himself. Jerry played the scenario over again in his mind. He started out by waiting for a message to appear before sending one. And 15 minutes later, he was still waiting to receive a message before sending one. And yet 15 minutes later, he was still waiting to receive a message before sending one. At this point, he gave up and turned off the machine. No message was sent … so no message was received. He was too busy waiting for his future self to send the message he was to receive.
Jerry decides he’s going to try again, only this time he has a different plan. He decides to look for a message at 4:45pm. If he sees a message at 4:45pm, he’s going to send the opposite message backward in time at 5:00pm, creating the paradox. And if he sees no message at all, or a garbled message, he’s going to send back an “A” at 5:00pm. This way, no matter what, a message gets sent at 5:00pm. So at 4:45pm, something or other should show up.
Jerry turns the machine on, and at 4:45pm suddenly a message appears …
The rest of the story? Well, that’s up to your imagination. What is the message that Jerry sees? Is it an “A”, is it a “B”, is it garbled? Does it destroy all time and space? The possibilities are numerous.
The key element I want to you to notice is that no message appears in the machine unless Jerry has made a firm decision to create the message before he sends it. It’s almost as if Jerry says, “Let there be an ‘A’,” and it appears as if by magic – assuming Jerry’s true intention is to send the message 15 minutes later. If Jerry is passive waiting for something to happen first, no message at all shows up. Clearly in this weird time travel scenario, deciding in advance makes all the difference in the world, and it appears as if he can make letters appear in the machine just by willing it to be so.
If we take the backward time travel out of this scenario, it turns out not much is changed. If we are passive and wait for circumstances or other people to nudge us in the “right” direction, not much gets created. We get stuck waiting on some external influence to create our dreams. And we wait, and we wait.
If, on other hand, we decide that we are going to create a result, at the moment of that decision, we set into motion a sequence of events that cause our desired outcome. Of course, we have to follow through on that decision and do the things to make it happen. But once the decision is made, it’s just a game of finding which method will produce the results we want. That is the power of our true intention.
If we want to live our legacy and produce the results from our life that we desire, we need to get our intentions clear, make a decision, and get to producing those results. Otherwise, we are just stuck waiting.
