This week we’ve been taking about SignifiCats. A SignifiCat is someone who lives a life of greater significance. And the world needs more SignifiCats.
The world is full of normal, average and mediocre. When we wake up in the morning, we don’t expect amazing. Amazing seems like a pretty high bar, so we lower the standard and expect the day to be plain. As long as nothing bad happens, we’re good.
I think the world would be a way better place if everywhere we looked found SignifiCats. How can we get more people to become SignifiCats?
Visible SignifiCats
SignifiCats are so focused on making a deep impact in a certain area, that they are easily spotted. The only way to instigate deep change is to jump in with both feet and get involved. Us Significats can’t help but be visible and recognizable.
Sometimes we get wound around the axle about recognition, so we want to help people anonymously. About the only way we can help anonymously is by giving money. While giving money can help quite a bit, we can have a greater impact by giving more than just our money. Once we go beyond the giving of money, we’re going to be found out.
Inspiring SignifiCats
And being found out is a good thing. When we jump in and start living like a Significat, it will inspire others to follow. People will come out of “hiding” when they see us living our legacy.
We admire and are inspired by the Mother Teresa’s, the Martin Luther King Jr’s, and the Mahatma Gandhi’s of the world. The world would be a much duller place without us experiencing these folks. In the same way, the world can benefit from us as well.
Doing good in secret because we think it’s more virtuous doesn’t inspire others. Of course, I’m not talking about doing something good and then calling attention to ourself. I’m talking about engaging in meaningful pursuits in plain view. Then people will naturally take notice. This is not to pat ourselves on the back, but to lead others and make more SignifiCats. Becuase the world needs more SignfiCats.
Let’s start a SignifiCat revolution.
What about you? What inspires you?
