Stuck in a Moment

frozen_tongueSometimes we get stuck in a moment. We have something happen to us, and it gets a hold of us, We get stuck in that moment. It could be the time we were ridiculed in front of our classmates in school. Maybe it was a time we were betrayed by someone we trusted.

Or perhaps it was more subtle. Maybe approval was withheld from us, and time and again the lack of acceptance, approval, and recognition just grew on us. We became stuck in a cycle of seeking approval and validation.

Whatever it was for you, it was a defining experience for you. It shaped your responses and your drives. You get stuck in the experience looking for a way out or a way through. But instead you experience repeating patterns in your life, and you wonder why these things keep happening again.

Other times, our experiences are the stuff of nightmares. These would be things like a death in the family, physical or emotional abuse, a major medical trauma, or a critical accident. Perhaps, we try not to think about these because they’re too much, and we’re afraid that if we go back into the experience, we’ll come apart completely.

If you can relate to any of this, I have good news for you. You can get past being stuck in a moment. And instead of these experiences being something to just get through and put into our past, we can use these experiences to make an incredible impact in the world.

It turns out our darkest days, our most embarrassing moments, and our deepest hurts are the stuff of power and legend. When we wrestle with these experiences and come out the other side, they can become one of our most powerful tools in transforming other’s lives.
