Stories introduce us to new possibilities. They allow us to see new options by taking a look at what other people have created in their lives.
We share a lot of our own experience in our new book, Splash! Increase Your Life’s Impact. The book also includes seven stories of people who’ve discovered their purpose in life and are living their calling.
Following is an excerpt of one of those stories. It’s from the story of Jenny Williamson of Courage Worldwide. Jenny started Courage Worldwide to rescue girls from sex trafficking.
Jenny is an encourager at heart. She encourages people every day, whether she’s addressing thousands of people from a stage, talking with a neighbour down the street or sitting with a girl at Courage House. She explains, “I’m always challenging and encouraging people to discover why they’re on planet Earth and what their God-given identity is. I get to encourage new kids in their destiny, and I encourage them in their purpose.” She says her passion is to teach people to be all that God has created them to be.
Jenny says her experience of life before and after finding her calling is as different as night and day. She tells people, “I spent the first 40 years of my life reacting to whatever would be thrown my way – financial circumstances, relational circumstances, any circumstance. It was just reactionary.”
But now Jenny lives with purpose. Jenny explains that before time began, God imagined her and planned her, and now He has a special assignment for her. Jenny says, “I am so much more intentional about everything. I have lived more in the last ten years than I did in the first forty.”
Jenny doesn’t know if she will always be doing the same work she is doing today. She says that rescuing kids from sex trafficking and putting them in homes is the work God has on His calendar for her right now. She goes on to say, “Ten years from now, it could be homeless ministries. But I’m always going to be helping people find their identity and their destiny.” The population she works with may change, but because she will still be Jenny, she will always be doing work that makes a difference in peoples lives.
