Ordinary is a Lie

Extraordinary Underwater MuseumWe all have this idea of what ordinary people do and don’t do, and if we find someone living a bigger life, well they’re not ordinary. Ordinary is us and “extraordinary” must mean someone else. But this concept is a lie.

We have this stratification view of people. We think things like:

  • There are the rich, the even richer, and then there are ordinary people.
  • There are the famous, and then there are ordinary people.
  • There are the powerful folks, and then there are us ordinary people.

Have you heard someone say, or even said yourself, “the little man just can’t get ahead?”

Where are all these “little man” people? I can’t find any ordinary people. I find people who think they’re ordinary, and relate to being the “little man.” But it’s not true.

The truth is that everyone seems normal until you get to know them. I mean this in a good way. Everyone, including you reading this, is amazing.

Everyone has unique special talents. Everyone has a “super power”. I talked with a guy the other day who built a deck in 5 days. I can’t do that. That’s amazing.

You have a sweet spot where you can be super, where you get pumped and energized, were you “kick ass,” and you can make a meaningful impact.

Ordinary is a lie.You are not ordinary. There is no such thing as ordinary. Step into and develop the amzingness that’s already in you. Be extraordinary.
