One Step Closer

FootstepsGot goals? Step by step we move closer to achieving our goals. The key to remember is that each step counts.

Following are three helpful points to help us continue our forward motion toward our goals.

1. Plan the journey in advance.

For many goals, we basically know what we need to do. Since we know what to do, the main issue, then, is making a plan and taking the necessary steps.

2. Every step is a decision.

No matter what the goal, we will need to make a series of decisions to make that goal happen. Think of it as a journey consisting of a set of steps. Each positive decision we make is a step that takes us closer. Be aware that most decisions that don’t move us forward tend to move us backward. For example they can erode our confidence or weaken a habit we’re working to establish.

3. Each step doesn’t need to look a certain way.

It’s easy to get wrapped up in thinking things need to look a certain way. Flexibility in combination with commitment will be our ally in getting to our goals. If we find we are not in a position to follow our plan to the letter, we can still choose a step that will move us forward on our journey.

I decided to share this perspective because it’s something I’m working on myself. I’m focusing on improving my health… again. I’m releasing excess weight… again. I asked myself, “How many times am I going to have to do this?” The answer: as many times as it takes.

I’m focusing on the individual steps in the journey. I’m constantly reminding myself that every decision I make effects my goal achievement. Every step counts.
