I was reminded of the power of choice again this week. Maybe some of the changes we want to make aren’t so hard after all. Maybe it comes down to a choice.
John and I were on a coaching call with our coaches. The conversation was around my sense of insecurity. How much value do I bring to our clients?
Sure, I have a Masters degree in social work. I have a strong sense of empathy and people tell me I inspire them. I have a lot of relevant experience. I have facilitated countless groups. We’ve coached people in Steam Engine Financial Coaching and Simply Great Lives. We’ve done a successful webinar series and a fantastic book study group. We’ve even done workshops with tremendous results.
Oh yeah, we wrote a book, too.
We have seen many lives transformed. And we are blessed to hear from people that they are grateful for the change we helped bring about in their lives.
Trust me, my intention is not to boast. I’m trying to see reality as it is instead of letting my own fears run my life.
We are blessed to be coached and mentored as a couple by another couple. One of them said, “We could just sit in silence on the phone with you guys and get a lot out of it.” They are clear on the value I bring but I was struggling to see it for it myself.
So I said, “OK. I will let that soak in.”
And the other coach suggested, “What if you don’t have to let it soak in? What if it’s a choice?” It was a great point. So today I am choosing to acknowledge the value I bring to the lives of other people.
How about you? Do you struggle to see that you can bring value to the lives of other people?
If you struggle with this, too, maybe you just need to make a new choice. Instead of going with old, outdated assumptions about yourself, you can choose to see yourself in a new light. Choose to see yourself as you really are.
For example:
- If you’ve seen yourself is timid, choose to see yourself as bold instead.
- If you’ve seen yourself as not-so-smart, choose to see yourself as a learner instead.
- If you’ve seen yourself as overwhelmed with life, choose to see yourself as in control instead.
The possibilities are endless. Perhaps you can more fully live up to your potential by simply making a new choice.

Good job! Thanks for the reminder!
I’m glad you liked it and found it helpful.
