I heard a statistic recently that 95% of our thoughts are subconscious and 93% of our communication is non-verbal. That means that 90% or more of our messages are communicated from our subconscious. Let’s talk about it.
You may not believe the numbers that were cited. That’s okay. The concept here is that much of our communication is oozing out from us without conscious control. Have you ever had the experience where someone said they would do something but you could tell that they weren’t going to do it? The non-verbal cues were telling you the opposite of what they were saying.
We all do this same thing sometimes, and often we’re not even aware of it. For example, perhaps you’re in sales and you’re telling a customer that the product is great, but because your subconscious doesn’t believe it, the customer is probably also getting non-verbal messages that the product is not great.
Another example might be you’re living your legacy by mentoring someone. They show up late. You’re trying to be supportive, but all the while, you’re upset because you don’t feel valued by them. They will be getting incongruent verbal and non-verbal messages from you, and effectiveness will decrease.
There is a strong tie between the way we show up in various situations and emotional intelligence. If you would like to increase your emotional intelligence and get more control over your non-verbal communication, you will get a lot out of our upcoming 2 day seminar. The first part of the seminar is about increasing your impact on people in relationships. The second part is on getting clear on the focused impact you want to make in the world.
