A smile is nice. A smile feels good to the person who gives it and to the person who receives it. To be clear, though, giving a smile will not change a life. At Simply Great Lives, we want lives to be changed.
For many people, the idea of becoming a life-changer is too challenging. They can see themselves as someone who lifts spirits by giving a smile. But they can’t see themselves as the kind of person who has a deeply positive and lasting impact on the lives of other people.
We believe everyone has a deep need for meaning and significance. Everyone wants their life to matter. And we believe everyone has the potential to make that kind of impact. But we all are deceiving ourselves if we think giving a smile will make any kind of real difference.
So, what does it look like to really make a significant difference in someone’s life? Following are just a few examples:
- Teach an illiterate adult to read and write
- Free a kid from sex trafficking
- Mentor someone who gave up alcohol to stay sober
- Empower someone to set and maintain healthy boundaries
- Help people to see their own greatness
- Equip people to manage their money
- Show someone how to have an intimate relationship with God
People will be able to point to those kinds of things and say, “That really changed my life.” That’s the kind of stuff we’re talking about. And it’ll take more than just a smile.
How about you? What kind of impact might you like to make? What might you like to be remembered for when you are gone?
