Sometimes when we tell people that we help people find their calling, they ask if this is a religious thing. We believe that everyone is wired up for a unique purpose whether they have a religious bent or not. But this doesn’t mean that we should leave God out of the picture.
If you are too weirded out by any topic of a religious nature, don’t worry about this. You don’t need to connect to God to find and live your calling.
However, if you already have a belief in God, you are probably wondering how God fits into all this. Here’s how we believe God relates to your calling.
Truths about God
Here are some truths we hold about God:
- God is a person not a religion or a cosmic force.
- God has a gigantic love for people, and wants to be in a loving relationship with us. He is always pursuing us – His love is so great, He can’t help himself.
- God knows what is best for us.
- God is all-knowing, and has a very different perspective on life than we do.
- God is far more interested in who we become than in what we accomplish or what we own.
- God has gifted each of us uniquely.
- God desires that we have life to the full.
God and Our Calling
This set of truths makes things a bit tricky. In terms of success in life, we can’t just ask for stuff from God and expect God to give it to us automatically. He knows if the stuff for which we’ve asked will drive us away from Him or negatively affect the person we become. He also knows how others may be affected by what we have or experience. It’s not all about us, after all.
God is far more likely to give us what we want when what we want is in alignment with what He is doing. Though, sometimes, He gives us what we want just because He loves us.
God wants us to be in a real and personal relationship with Him and to know Him by experience. I believe God jumps for joy when we decide to pursue our calling, step out of our comfort zone, and begin doing things way bigger than ourselves. Then we can start to experience God in a whole new way.
Living our calling to the fullest has us bringing all of ourselves in partnership with God. Of course, the more powerful entity here is God, so it’s equally true to say that God is doing a work in and through us as we pursue God’s calling on our life.
God brings way more to the table than we do. Yet, God doesn’t want us to just sit back and let Him do all the work without us. Otherwise, we’d miss out on relating with and experiencing God. We’d also miss out on becoming the person God intended us to become.
If you already relate to God, we can’t encourage you more to get God in on the action. If the idea of God gives you the heebiejeebies, you can still find tremendous fulfillment in living a legacy.
