Fill Up On Positive Messages

TED: Ideas worth spreadingOur ability to accomplish important things in life is influenced by the messages we let into our minds. Often we don’t fill up on positive messages. We get messages all the time from all kinds of sources:

  • TV
  • radio
  • podcasts and blogs
  • news
  • advertising
  • friends, family, co-workers and others

If we don’t make a concerted effort to let in positive messages, and limit negative ones, we will likely find ourselves swimming in a sea of ick. Have you noticed how the lyrics to many songs are a downer. Did you know that the goal of news media is to evoke outrage. Do you find yourself feeling dissatisfied after watching a bunch of commercials.

Instead of doing the usual TV-watching, news-absorbing, radio-listening and paying attention other typical media, try plugging yourself into inputs that will be a benefit to you. Seek out things that:

  • stimulate your mind
  • explore new possibilities
  • expand your horizons
  • challenge counter productive habits
  • give you good ideas
  • encourage positive change
  • support your efforts for self improvement
  • inform you of the good that’s going on around you

I believe you will feel a noticeable improvement in your personal levels of energy and hope. This week I’m going to share my favorite positive inputs. Today’s featured positive input is …

TED Talks

TED stands for Technology, Entertainment and Design. It is a non-profit organization dedicated to “ideas worth spreading.” TED hosts annual conferences with a fantastic array of presenters who speak on an enormous  number of different topics.

You can access these TED talks:

Some of my favorite talks have been on different aspects of psychology and social issues. My kids tend to like the scientific ones.

I like the phone app because it makes TED available on the go. It lists all the topics. Here is just a random sample of TED talk topics:

  • activism
  • youth
  • parenting
  • universe
  • technology
  • simplicity
  • productivity
  • language
  • jazz
  • extreme sports
  • story telling

There is tons of interesting stuff there. The presenters are great too as they are experts in their fields.

If you’re wanting to fill your mind with positive messages that are interesting, that explore new ideas, and challenge the status quo, I encourage you to check out TED talks.
