Don’t Die with Your Music Still In You

dancingYou have “music” in you that’s dying to get out. I found this out when I had my heart attack in 2005. I don’t want you to have to die to realize this for yourself. Don’t die with your music still in you.

“Don’t die with your music still in you” is the title of a chapter in a book called, “21 Days to Success and Inner Peace” by Wayne Dyer. When I saw this chapter title, I knew I had to write about it. The book is pretty good, though parts are a bit too woowoo for me. You can check it out here if you want.

The Music

The music that’s in you is a perfect expression of you in the world. This perfect expression manifests when you are unencumbered and at your best. This is the part of you that has an amazing capacity to impact the world. This is the part of you that loves, laughs and trusts. This is the part of you that holds the highest good for other people.

Your music is unique. No one else has your music just the way you do. There are people who are praying for you to show up with your music. Sure, maybe they don’t know it’s you, but they need your special you-ness, your perspective, your compassion, and your giftedness.

Binding

But we often bind up our music. We don’t listen to the music that’s in us. It’s not logical. It looks foolish. So we bury it, and the music in us gets real quiet.

We follow what our analytical mind tells us. We go to a job each morning. We bring in money. We go with the crowd. We follow the rules. We stay anonymous.

We listen to what others have told us – that we’re insufficient, we’re inadequate, and we’ll never amount to anything. We give weight to the school kids who laughed at us, who called us names. We believe our teaches who had a critical spirit. So we get in line, and make sure we don’t stand out. We do what other people tell us, and it’s not our passion. Our music gets stuck in us.

Life

When we bury our music. We start a cycle of slow death. We die on the inside. We kill our spirit. The lights go out of our eyes. Joy eludes us. We survive. We pay the bills, but then we wonder is this really all there is to life?

When we find and express our music to the world, we get to experience a rebirth. We come alive and we become contagious, inspiring others to come alive with us.

Don’t do what’s safe and reasonable. Don’t meet expectations. Instead, do what makes you come alive.

Don’t die with your music still in you.
