This is the third part of the three part series called, “A Cover Up, a Party and a Calling.” Parts 1 and 2 can be found here and here. We take different approaches to life, and each of these affects our ability to pursue our calling.
This third approach to life is to see that we are called to a higher purpose. We have unique strengths, talents and abilities. We have unique passions in life. We are meant to have a significant influence on the world. We are meant to live a legacy.
We don’t hear about this approach to life much. We are bombarded with messages in the media. News messages are all about who messed up, who is corrupt, and what’s the latest tragedy. Advertisements tell us what will make us happy. But when we see someone who lived a calling, we recognize it, and we are touched. We honor people like Martin Luther King Jr. and Mother Teresa, Mahatma Gandhi, and Princess Diana. Though we may or may not become famous, our lives should be no less significant in the world.
We at Simply Great Lives believe that this approach to life is the right approach. We believe it is way more satisfying to live a calling rather than to live a party or a cover up. Instead of focusing our efforts on looking good and criticizing others for not living up to standards of perfection, instead of just living life for our own fun, contentment and gratification, we can live to make meaning in others’ lives and in our own.
To live our calling, we need to ask:
- “What am I creating?”
- “What am I raising up?”
It all comes down to people, so we can ask, “What am I creating or raising up in my family, in my friends, in my community, and to people at large?”
Our answers to these questions will be unique to each of us. That’s why the world needs us. No one else will pursue answers to these questions the same way we will. We will bring our own unique perspective and experience.
So, I ask you, what are you creating or raising up?
