Change: Just Say “No!” to the Status Quo

status qouLook, if there’s something you really don’t like, change it! Don’t just complain. Don’t go victim. Do something about it.

Sticking with the status quo is easy. Average people choose to take the easy route. But if you’re reading this, you’re not the average person. Truthfully, you have lots of power to make change.

The Key to Making Change Happen

To make change happen, you need to believe change is possible. When I find something irritating, I decide upfront that there are at least half a dozen good options available. Not all the good options will be readily apparent. It’s takes effort to find them. However, before you will ever look, you need to first believe they are out there.

If you want to live your calling, you’ll need energy to make it happen. Step 3 of our “7 steps to live your calling” is “Maximize your energy.” This step is about identifying energy drains in our lives and making changes so we can reclaim that wasted energy.

There are many facets of our lives that can require occasional tweaks or potentially major overhauls.

  • Relationships
  • Jobs
  • Finances
  • Living situation
  • Transportation
  • Time management

Get Creative

Often times, creating change requires creative problem-solving. Here’s one technique to help you implement some creativity.

  1. Make a list of as many options as possible.
Gather ideas from friends. Pretend it’s someone else’s problem and brainstorm solutions for them. Write them all down. Don’t reject anything out of hand.
  2. Look over your list. For each item, see if it makes you think of a similar or related or slightly different alternative and write them down.
  3. Pick something good from the list and give it a try. In implementing any change, you may find it necessary to make further tweaks along the way. Flexibility is key.

Be courageous. Don’t be afraid to try new things. It’s okay if you try something new and it doesn’t work out the way you want. Most likely, you will have learned valuable information about implementing even better change in the future.
