There are three general phases of a calling, especially in the beginning. Check them out and see where you are in the process.
Ready
The first phase requires us to recognize our need to contribute to the world and to make a difference in the lives of other people. At Simply Great Lives, we are looking for people who already know these things are important. We are excited to work with people who want to know that they loved people well and that their lives mattered.
Set
Once we know we want to live a life of significance, we will need to get ourselves in a good place to make an impact. We will need to take control of our time, energy and money. These elements (time, energy and money) will either be building blocks or stumbling blocks on our journey. if we are too busy, emotionally drained or financially broke, we won’t be in any good position to focus on benefiting other people.
Another important part of getting set for this journey is getting clear on what exactly our purpose in life is and what specific impact we want to have. Otherwise, our efforts will be unfocused and we will experience limited results. As Toby Mac says, “I’ll be chasing every dream that comes my way.” So rather than diffusing our energy, let’s get clear on exactly what we are wanting to accomplish. In fact, this principle is found in one of Stephen Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, “Begin with the End in Mind.”
Go!
Once we are ready and set, then we can get going on making a difference in the lives of other people. Through a process of trial, error and adjustments, we can get really great at what we do. The specifics of what we do for our calling may change over time, but being clear on our purpose will ensure we are involved in the right activities.
In conclusion, if you are ready to do this work, meaning you already know it’s important, please don’t skip the getting set stage. We want the best results for you. Therefore, we encourage you to give the necessary time and effort to preparing yourself for the work ahead.
Feel free to share in the comments section of our blog what you are dealing with. We are here for you.
