The Beautiful Deadline

deadlineWhat’s so great about a deadline? A deadline is a powerful tool to help us get things done. Although deadlines may seem like our enemy, they can very much be our ally.

This is Simply Great Lives’ 229th blog. It’s not a nice, round number, but it does show a commitment to getting our message out. If it weren’t for the 3-times-a-week deadline, there wouldn’t be nearly so many of them. We know there are people out there who are expecting our blog and would miss it if it didn’t come.

A deadline pushes us and makes us focus. It makes us prioritize things differently, even if just for a short period. Really, deadlines help us get things done.

If you’re struggling to get something accomplished, consider setting a deadline. You can use it for all kinds of things in life, e.g.:

  • Taking a class
  • Writing your story
  • Starting a business
  • Organizing your office
  • Releasing weight
  • Putting on an event

We’ve all experienced deadlines and how they move us. School and work provide deadlines imposed by someone else. Other times we’ve set the deadline ourselves and needed to follow through. Big parties like a wedding have so many people involved that we can’t just drop the ball. Can you imagine someone telling people about their upcoming wedding and then needing to change the date because the were blowing off getting everything arranged? It doesn’t happen very often.

Of first importance is the deadline. Next, you can crank up the power of the commitment by adding accountability. If it’s important to you to save face, go ahead and tell other people about your goal and its deadline.

One final thought about the deadline, be sure to write it down. When are you going to accomplish that task? You can even put it on the calendar and back out all the necessary activities to make certain you get it all done.

We wish you much success in 2015 and hope you greatly impact many lives!
