John and I are putting the finishing touches on our book, “Splash: Increase Your Life’s Impact.” I am really blessed to be writing the stories of seven people and their journey to their calling.
I’ve completed the first three stories and have found this theme: We all have a need for affirmation, for other people to let us know we are doing important things well. Sometimes other people see our talents and abilities before we do. Sometimes just getting affirmation from other people is enough to help us overcome our doubts and fears.
So, if you’re not sure of your purpose and your calling, listen for input from other people, especially those who know you well.
- “Hey, you’re really good at this!”
- “You’re a real natural.”
- “You’re really in your element there.”
- “Have you ever considered doing that for work?”
- “You have a really powerful message and your voice needs to be heard.”
- “You’re such a good listener.”
- “I always appreciate your encouragement; it’s so uplifting.”
- “You’re a real natural at mentoring.”
- “You come alive when you teach.”
While. affirmation is not the only clue to our calling, it can be a helpful one. Don’t be afraid to ask other people you respect what they see in you. That kind of feedback is invaluable.
