A Cornucopia of Purpose

Cornucopia of fruit and vegetablesHere is a whole cornucopia of examples of people’s passions and positive impacts. Often, a passion was ignited by a significant experience. It leads to action that has a deliberate and positive impact in the lives of other people. As you look over the list–the cornucopia–consider your own formative life experiences and what you are passionate about. What can you do with them to make other people’s lives better? Just consider the possibilities!

1. Communication
Was punished with silence as a child.
Making people aware of their communication

2. Body Image
Loves the experience of and connection with the body in bellydancing
Helping women and girls love rather than hate their bodies

3. Opportunities
Experienced limited opportunities early in life
Opening up possibilities for kids who would otherwise likely end up in poverty

4. The Value of a Person
Went through a period of need, and the food handouts were people’s left-over, unwanted pantry items
Making homeless people feel valued (and well-fed)

5. Personal Power
Felt powerless when sexually abused as a girl
Restoring women’s power

6. Hope
Survived cancer
Supporting people in surviving cancer

7. Significance
heart attack brought up two questions: “Did I love people well?” and “Did my life matter?”
Showing people how to live a life of significance

8. Optimal Health
Overcame chronic disease through nutrition
Empowering people to achieve healthh

9. Financial Security
Went through a bankruptcy, lost everything, and built wealth again
Showing people how to manage their money

10. Success in Business
Learned about being an entrepreneur through the school of hard knocks
Mentoring people to be successful in business

11. Freedom from Alcoholism
Struggled with alcoholism, enduring a lot of pain and putting other people through a lot of pain
Helping alcoholics get sober and stay sober

12. Restoring Girls
Always wanted a daughter, but only had sons
Rescuing girls from sex trafficking and helping them heal

13. Valuing Elders
Was abused as a child and was unable to speak up for self
Advocating for elders who are being abused

14. Support for Families
Had a child with mental illness, which caused a lot of strife in the family
Supporting families of kids with mental illness

15. Independence for Women
Was a victim of domestic violence
Equips young women to be financially secure and independent

16. New Member Integration
Felt isolated and unaccepted as a kid at school
Integrating new members into a church community

17. Restoring Families
Was bounced from home to home and felt unwanted as a child
Tracking down missing children for families who dearly want them back

18. Financial Savvy
Was the victim of a financial scam
Educates people to be financially secure

19. Community
Belonged to several different religions and was hurt by the prejudices people have toward each other
Helping people from different religious backgrounds appreciate each other and work together in community

20. Adoption
Grew up in the foster care system
Getting kids adopted into families

21. Impact Awareness
Was abused as a child by a man who was unaware of his negative impact
Making people aware of their impact on other people

There is a wide range of impacts represented here. There’s plenty of room for your impact, too. Your efforts can bring about a cornucopia of thanks from many people whose lives you will touch.

When I sign our book “Splash! Increase Your Life’s Impact” for people, I often use the following inscription. I say the same thing to you now:
