What are you really good at? I bet you weren’t always good at those things. In fact, I bet at the beginning you were really terrible at them. That’s just how it is. We start off bad at something and we keep working at it and then we get to be good at it. We go from bad to better to good––and if we keep working at it we can become great at it.
I encourage you to recognize this journey. If you’re like me, maybe you get frustrated with yourself and inpatient at your own progress. I’ve found, though, that I am kinder with myself when I see it as a journey instead of judging myself as though I’ve already arrived at the finish line.
So, really take a moment to consider what you’re good at. How did you become good at it? Were you this good right out of the gate? Or did it take a while? Maybe some time and practice? How about some mistakes along the way?
What areas are you wanting to grow in now? Maybe you’re in the process of getting better at it, but you’rr not quite where you want to be yet. Can you see how you’ve made progress from where you started? Haven’t you already gotten better at it than you used to be?
Getting better at things is just a process. And hopefully it doesn’t end, we just keep getting better and better.
I have found that in this process sometimes I think I got pretty good at something only to find out there’s plenty more room to improve.
Something comes up yet again and I exclaim to myself, “Man, I thought I already dealt with this!”
And life seems to respond, “Yes, but you get to learn it at a deeper level. This is your opportunity to get even better.”
There are so many opportunities to improve ourselves:
- Relationships
- Communication
- Spirituality
- Health
- Finances
- Career or business
- And the list could go on and on with each of these things having different components and aspects to improve
So don’t shy away from opportunities to improve. You’re on the journey and in the process. It takes time and effort. But here is something to keep in mind: don’t give up because if you keep working on it, you will get better at it.
